Does it Matter what Hospital you do your Clinicals at? Ask Me a Question!

Hey Everyone,

I received another “ask me a question” and it comes from Marie and here is what she asked:

“Does it matter what hospitals you do your clinicals at? I am starting a nursing program at a University that has 2 Nursing campuses in different cities. They are the same programs, but one is older and has affiliations with more Hospitals, but is smaller and harder to enroll in classes I need. The other is newer, has a larger campus and therefore easier to enroll in the classes I need but because their nursing program is newer they are not affiliated with very many Hospitals.”

Marie thanks for you question. I understand your concern on if you should enroll in the clinicals/classes that are more affiliated with the local hospitals because getting hired will be easier. However, the school I went to was affiliated with the local hospital in my area and many of the students from my school got jobs from the hospital but so did other students who did not attend affiliated schools.

I really don’t think it will affect you but if you are worried about it I would ask you admission office to make sure. When you start looking for a job I would be really aggressive and start early so you can get a position. If you are worried about the opportunities you may get I wouldn’t worry about it because you will probably have access to better equipment and resources than the older school.

I hope I answered you question and good luck Marie!

Where Have I Been lol?…Working & GRADUATING THIS SATURDAY OH MY GOSH FINALLY!!

Hey Everyone,

So you may be thinking “Where in the world is Sarah?” lol. Well I’ve got to say that I’m have been crazy busy and I thought that once graduation got here I would have more time to rest….I was wrong lol. So what all has been going on in my life and with me you may wonder since I last blogged.

I’m OFFICIALLY done with nursing school. Last Wednesday was my last day. It really hasn’t hit me yet that I no longer have to study for a test again (except NCLEX) or do some pointless project or have to go to clinicals (being free labor lol). It is over and I have to say I’m the happiest person in the world right now. I can’t believe I got through it and congrats to all you out there who are also graduating.

I have been working 40 hours per week. I started that at the middle of April and have been going full force. I got to say I like my pay checks. I have been saving them though hehe. Hopefully Ben and I will have a house by the end of the summer. After I graduate on Saturday I get like a three dollar raise because I will be what is called a “graduate nurse” woohoo. Next week I start orientation as an RN at my job which I’m really excited about. I will be working M-F 7-3 for about 5 weeks and then M-F 11-7 for another 5 weeks. I will be in orientation for a while. The only thing I can’t do as a graduate nurse is give medications or mess with any type of lines (IV or central line).

I graduate this Saturday and have a pinning ceremony on Friday. I’m so excited :-) Last Saturday my mom, mamaw, and I went shopping for my party. Like I said it is Luau themed and I found some great stuff at the Dollar Tree. Everything in the store is a dollar and I LOVE that place. I got everything from a grass skirt to blow up palms trees lol. Lets just say it is going to be very Luau themed. I will have to post pictures of graduation and my party next week so be looking for those.

I’ve got several “ask me a questions” and I will be getting to some of them today. Thanks for all the questions…sorry about the delay in getting to them. But I promise I will so don’t worry.

Here is the outlook for the week: Wednes: Work 7a-7p, Thursday: clean and get ready for this weekend…possibly go to my moms and set up my stuff for the party (we have a gazebo tent that Ben has to put up), Friday: Pinning Ceremony woohoo can’t wait, Saturday: Graduation and my party: OMG I’m so EXCITED.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week and I will be posting soon!

Until next time,
Sarah ;-)
