Iseach paper…Why did you pick nursing, how many years did it take you to complete it….Ask me a Question!

Hey Everyone,

I received another “ask me a question” and this questions comes from Shay and here is what she asked:

“I am doing my isearch paper on nursing and needing to interview or asked questions to someone and i was wondering if you could help me out.

why did you want to be in the nursing field?

what type of nursing are you in?

I want to be a pediatric nurse and work in the nursery.

that is my goal and im willing to do anything to achieve it.

how many years of school does it take?

what do you need to become a nurse?

thank you for your time.

-shay”

Shay, thank you so much for your question…and so sorry about the delay. School has been totally and utterly crazy. I feel flattered that you picked me to answer these questions.

“Why did you want to be in the nursing field?”  This question is easy for me to answer. I wanted to be in the nursing field because I ABSOLUTELY love helping people. I feel God bless with a caring and loving attitude towards people who need to be helped. I find it so fulfilling that my job lets me make an impact on the world. In a way I feel like I’m able to leave my mark on the world by hopefully helping individuals get a second second chance at life. Plus I feel I have the best job in the world because I get to be with people during the most vulnerable moments. And what is so crazy about all this is that I get paid to do something I love!

“What type of nursing are you in?” I’m actually still a nursing student until May 9, 2009…..woohoo but I’m going into cardiac nursing. However, I want to try everything really. I feel my heart is in community based-nursing such as home health and clinic nursing. I will probably do this when I’m in my late 30s. I would also like to teach health science to high school students because you can with a BSN-RN. The great thing about nursing is that you can do whatever you want….there are so many options!

What Books to Purchase when Studying for HESI & NCLEX-RN……Ask Me a Question!

Hey Everyone,

I hope every one is doing fine and dandy this Friday! I received another “ask me a question”…..I’m so loving it :-) This question comes from Brenda and here is what she asked:

“Hi Sarah

Just happen to come across your blog and love it! I am preparing for HESI/Boards here in Michigan. You mentioned a book you ordered from amazon produced by HESI. What is the name of it? I think I may order it as well. I did my 150 questions today. We were told we should attempt 5000 questions prior to HESI. Hope to hear from you soon.

Brenda”

First of all, thank you Brenda for your question and this is a very important question EVERY nursing student who plans on taking the HESI & NCLEX-RN should know. There are hundreds if not thousands of NCLEX-RN study guides out there….some are good and others are a waste of money. The key is to get the ones that will help you pass your exams on the first try. When purchasing a study guide for these exams it is important to purchase ones that come with plenty of practice questions and study material that easily breaks down the content.

So with that all said here are two books I recommend studying for your HESI & NCLEX-RN. I personally have bought both of these books from Amazon.com and find them very useful and so do my friends from nursing school.

The first one is made by HESI and it is called Evolve Reach Testing and Remediation Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN Examination: ISBN: 978-1416047759. I searched on Amazon.com for it and here is a link to it.

The second book I recommend is called Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN Examination: ISBN: 978-1416037088. I also searched on Amazon.com for it and here is a link to it. This book is great because is have over 4,000 practice questions which is more than the HESI book and as you, Brenda, pointed out it is recommended you practice 5,000 questions prior to taking HESI. I think the book made by HESI has only 550 questions.

Brenda, thank you for your question and I hope this helped you out. If you have anymore questions don’t hesitate to ask :-) Also, be sure to check out my HESI & NCLEX-RN Study Log that I have made that keeps track of what I’m studying, how many questions I did, and what I scored. Then after I complete the exams I will announce is I passed or not…..I’m hoping that it will be the word passed. Also, good luck to you on your exams. I’ll be praying for both of us!

Until next time,

Sarah ;-)
